In an effort to emphasise digital news over traditional TV, the BBC is cutting £80m from its annual news budget, taking it down to £480m/year. The axing of the Victoria Derbyshire current affairs programme on BBC2 was announced a few days ago, and now the editor of Radio 4's Today programme and former editor of the Sunday Telegraph and consultant editor on the Daily Mail, Sarah Sands has resigned a day after the cuts were announced. Controversial presenter John Humphrys left in September and gained a column in the Daily Mail.
The BBC is facing much criticism from the political left over allegations of bias during the recent UK election, which are equally strongly resisted by those on the right who think the BBC is full of liberal lefties.
